Mermaids & Muzzles: Creating Mermaid Inspired Impawsto Dog Portraits at Sassywoof’s LA Influencer Bash

If you’ve ever painted a dog inspired by a mermaid-themed paw-ty in thick impasto swirls of deliciously goopy paint, all while surrounded by four-legged influencers lapping up puppacinos and having their momagers take selfies—congrats! You’ve officially unlocked the most fabulous fever dream in existence.
Welcome to what I would like to call Mermaids & Muzzles, a splashy, paw-sitively extra private event where dogs came dressed to impress-seidon, and I had the honor (and total delight) of painting impawsto portraits of these sea-sational pups.
Buckle up and prepare to dive deep into the world of impawsibly glam dog-mermaids.
Detour to Drama: The Great Tablecloth Crisis of 2025
Let me just say this: no magical mer-dog bash begins without a bit of chaos. Picture me in full glam, chatting with my team en route to the venue, when I suddenly realized—cue horror movie music—I forgot my tablecloth.
Yep. The whole table was going to be naked.
Classic mom brain. I immediately started searching for the nearest TJMaxx like I was on a GPS-powered scavenger hunt. But the universe, in all her chaotic glory, wasn’t done with me yet. A few miles later, I remembered something even worse:
I FORGOT THE ENTIRE FRAME I USE TO DECORATE MY DISPLAY.
My heart stopped. I started sweating like I was in a sauna made of acrylic paint. Pretty sure I lost a few years of my life in that moment.
THANK DOG I had left two hours early. (Pro tip for all LA creators: never trust traffic, always trust anxiety.) The roads were surprisingly kind, giving me time to MacGyver a solution. My team started calling local stores like we were in some kind of high-stakes DIY version of The Amazing Race. No one had what we needed. No cute frame. No cute options.
So we did what artists do best—we imagined, then winged it.
A spontaneous stop at Home Depot turned into a mission of architectural artistry. I mentally sketched a new setup, grabbed a few poles and connectors, and just prayed to the glitter gods it would all hold up. I had no idea if it would work until I got to the venue. And since it was my first time as a vendor with Sassywoof, I had to look like I had it all under control.
“Oh, these poles? Definitely part of the plan. I do this all the time.”
(They were not. I don’t. But I am now a certified event MacGyver.)
Miraculously—like, mermaid-tears-level miraculous—it worked. The frame held, the table looked fabulous, and I even had enough time to help other vendors and sneak in some sample paintings using Sassywoof team members’ own fur babies (who, of course, had pawfessional reference photos at the ready).
Shells, Selfies & Sea Dogs
This wasn’t your average pup party. Think: ocean-inspired décor, treats too pretty to eat, and a “paw-risian” chandelier hanging over a shimmery selfie wall. The photoshoot was lit (lit-erally), tacos were provided for the help (hoomans need to eat too!), and every pup dressed in Sassywoof's adorable gear!
I was stationed at a cozy corner, ready to turn good boys and girls into fabulous eye candy using a technique I call im-paw-sto—big strokes with only a palette knife, bold colors, and enough texture to make a croissant jealous.
Under the Paw-cific: Prepping for the Pup Portraits
Before the event, I prepped a few paintings to save time on site. Think: dreamy undersea gradients, a bit of iridescent shine, and just the boopiest pups in the land. I built a palette of mermaid dreams—blues, teals, pinks, and a little iridescent sparkle for good measure.
Most of the portraits were done live, based on photos or real-time wiggling models. And let me tell you: trying to paint a dachshund while she’s desperate to lick your face like her treat stash depends on it is no easy feat.
Spoiler alert: I made it happen. Barely.
Painting Live: Sirens, Strokes & Smooches
Live painting with impawsto is part performance, part painting, and part controlled chaos. Momagers circled around with phones and goodies, cooing at their dogs like proud stage moms while I whipped up mini masterpieces in under five minutes each.
The goal? Capture each pup’s unique vibe. Some were sassy sirens, others shy sea-dogs. One looked like he ran an underwater mafia—slicked-back ears, resting beach face, and a stare that said, “You swim with the fishes because I allow it.”
The thick textures made the portraits pop—fur you could almost pet, paint peaks that mimicked ocean waves crashing over cuteness.
Of course, things got wild.
One pug tried to eat my fingers off. He clearly never heard the phrase, “Don’t bite the hand that paints you fabulous.”
(I forgave him. He had glitter on his tail.)
A dachshund lost its mind over a very gorgeous corgi nearby. The adorableness.
I was not emotionally prepared.
The Tail End: From Pupstagram to Gallery-Worthy
As the sun set over the sparkly skyline, I had painted a total of 80 impawsto pups. Each one went home with proud pup parents and very specific instructions: hang it high, away from curious noses and designer handbags.
One guest told me it was the most “extra and iconic” thing she’d ever commissioned.
Another said, “This has been on my bucket list for years… I need a selfie.”
Both valid. Both ego-boosting.
Final Thoughts: Life’s Better Under the Sea (With Dogs)
Painting mermaid-inspired impawsto portraits of dogs isn’t just ridiculous fun—it’s an artistic tailspin of texture and pure, unfiltered joy. It’s about capturing personality in every thick swirl of paint, celebrating the over-the-top love we have for our pets, and maybe, just maybe, making the world a little more fabulous—one glittery stroke at a time.
To all the mermutt lovers out there: keep dreaming, keep barking, and never let anyone dull your glitter.
Need a custom sea-dog portrait? Just give me a bark—I’m always ready to dive in. 🐶🧜♀️🎨✨
